1st Journal Page Finished – Well…Kind of…

A New Month, means a New Challenge
‘Blots and Splashes’

Something a little different, from me anyway, this month…
I had a go at journalling!

I was crafty skyping with Shirley and playing with Gelatos in my journal book that has never been used.  It was a great opportunity to play and experiment with something new.
I started out by just putting down a gelato background, then adding lots of stenciling and splots and splashes.
Stenciling is magical on gelatos.  I only have 8 colours and I think I have used at least 6 of them on this page.  I need more!!!

After the background was laid down, and adding lots of splashes of ink and stamping blots with Visible Image stamps, I then started wondering what to do with it???
My journal is 8″ x 8″, which is quite large for me, so I figured that I needed large stamps – so logical aren’t I?
Out came the Jumbo Grapes from Stampendous!

They were fun to colour in.  I used my Inktense pencils.
With more ink, and more blots on the leaves.

Even though this was turned into an inspiration piece for FSC, by nature, journalling is a very personal thing.
I started thinking of the music festivals that I’ve been to over the years (logical, grapes = wine= festivals) and that is when I started turning it into a proper journal page.

I added a saxaphone player, from Visible Image, because it reminded me of a festival that I went to in Melbourne a few years back that got rained out when a freak storm hit from off the ocean…Joe Camilleri was playing the sax at the time!
Joe Camilleri heads The Black Sorrows, a favourite band of mine.

I thought I had finished…but then I decided to fill in the spaces with cut-out letters from a newspaper, making up the names of bands that I have seen.  Did you notice that I put Inxs near the wine? (I just thought it would be a funny place to put it).  I haven’t seen this band IRL, but I wish I had’ve.  They would’ve been amazing!
My bands are Australian bands, and mainly from the 80’s.  Some of them are still performing around different festivals today.

The border was done using a Dylusions border stamp.

This is my first finished journal page.
Though I get the feeling that I will be adding more band names to it over time…are any journal pages ever really finished?

It was a huge project for me which was put together over a couple of crafty skype sessions.  A big thank you to Shirley for kicking my butt to try something new!

The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the same theme.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of their creativity,
be inspired, and maybe join in our fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 picked by the DT as well.

Stamping must be the focal point on your project!
