"Anything But a Card" at Fashionable Stamping Challenges

A Box For My Cards.
When I first put my cards in at a local cafe/gallery to see how they would go, they were crammed into a tiny, gold and glittery box.  Belinda said that it would do until I decorate my own box with feathers, bright colours and lots of bling to show my personality...

I did nothing!

Thank goodness Shirl (our fearless fashionista at Fashionable Stamping Challenges) set a challenge of
"Anything But a Card".

Reaction 1:  I wanted to wimp out of the challenge! Big time! The truth is, I spent 4 weeks trying to come up with a believable reason not to do this challenge!!!
Reaction 2:  I could make that box that should have been made 3 months ago....
but...feathers???  bling???  bright colours???  that's right, still stalling....
Reaction 3:  I decided to just to go with it and see what evolved, maybe something that was beautiful and calm ~ like me
(lol,...sorry, couldn't resist that!)
And I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge!

This was the result.

The box is a chipboard tissue box, turned upside down.  I then went and got the biggest saw I could find and shaped it so that it sloped downwards.
I gave the whole thing 2 coats of white acrylic paint.  I left the inside white,
And sanded it.
But went over the outside in 3 or 4 different blue DI's and a purple one too.
And sanded it.
The long vine stamp at the high end of the box (on both the sides and the back) is stamped in white ink and clear embossed. And the flourishes around the rest is done in the same blues as I coloured the box in.
And sanded it.

This is a view of the front of the display box.

I just want to point out that around the top edge of the box I painted on some white picket fence paint..enough so that it dripped.
The blue distress inks have seeped into it and looks really good I think!
There is a clearer view of this at the back of the box.

And this part of the view of the side of the box.

All around the box are stamped images from Crafty Individuals which I really like at the moment.  They are stamped in Pumice Stone DI on patterned paper and water colored with the same watered-down ink.  Blue DI edges each pic which has been distressed and layered and mounted, with some cheesecloth and ribbon from my stash, behind it.
Oh, and notice the bling...just had to have a little!

And this is a view from the back.

All around the box are silver embossed butterflies that seem to float from frame to frame to give continuance to each side. As does the ribbon which wraps all the way around.
This gorgeous image is silver embossed also.On the inside of the box I have randomly stamped butterflies as well just to draw the inside out...
I ended up sanding half of the images off so I ended up with a more muted effect.

Enjoy!

I am entering this project in the following challenges~

Oh my you were brave taking your saw to this but what a fabulous result. Just amazingly beautiful. Prevaricating clearly suits you, perhaps you should do it more often! By the way, what happened to the bit of the box that you were left with??? Pictures please!

Thanks so much for joining us at Crafty Cardmakers.

thanks Lin, the tissue box was open one end and I have just turned it upside down...so the left over bits are just a couple of triangle bits...which I have got rid of. Maybe I should have kept them???

This is gorgeous dot, love the colour and the background stamping with those images.
There's a little 'vintage lady' on her way to you, sorry for the delay, but she likes a new inkpad!
