“Aaaahh David”

When I saw this stamp I fell in love with it. It has taken me a little while before using him though.  I really wanted to do him justice.
The theme this fortnight at Fashionable Stamping Challenges is “It’s A Guy Thing”, and being single I wanted to create a card that showed passion and love and sensuality (all the things I think of with a guy in mind).
The inking is from a mixture of alcohol inks on acetate and mounted onto white card….they are so much fun to work with!  And this time I wanted to do something more precise with it, it just takes patience, and time to play.
Tip: I used the corners of the blending tool to get a finer finish.
The heart is my first go at using my melting pot…it is a mixture of black and gold UTEE and poured into a heart shaped cookie cutter.
I decided to do the background in colours that matched his body, to bring out the lushness of the alcohol inks, except I used distress inks instead, used some overstamping and even splashed some bleach onto the card (purely because I was experimenting, but I really like the effect so you will no doubt see more of that).  Some distressing of the cardstock and edging the stamped words with a felt tip liner make all the difference.
There is a wonderful tutorial over at Fliss’s blog on building up your background with distress inks.

And this is a close up of David…just because! lol
How sexy is that!
Yep, this is my version of “It’s A Guy Thing”, and to see the other amazing inspirations from the other DT members then pop over to FSC and prepare to be amazed!!! There is some awesome talent over there.
You can interpret It’s A Guy Thing with romance or even a birthday in mind, the interpretation is up to you and as always it must be stamping and it must be fun!
Marina from Cottage Crafts has a wonderful prize on offer…this goes to the one voted for the most by the DT

Bursting with Butterflies

I have had a fantastic big kick off to the new year with a win for my African Trio set of cards this week at Crafty Cardmakers (with a Joanna Sheen prize on the way….love her stamps!), I have just passed my first 12 months of blogging ( and a HUGE year it has been….I have absolutely loved every minute of it!), I posted away a prize card to Sparkly Fairy for being amongst my first 50 followers ( my first ever giveaway) and Shantril and Wanda have joined my blog! Welcome.
And the fun continues at Fashionable Stamping Challenges!
This fortnight the theme is “Butterflies or Bugs” with another gorgeous giveaway from
Marina’s “Cottage Crafts”
and don’t forget to check out the inspirational projects from all the DT members.  Stunning!

At the Melbourne Zoo they have a butterfly enclosure where when you enter you are immediately surrounded by butterflies of hundreds of different species and you stand there in awe and surrounded and by nature for ages!!!
I wanted to create an abundance of butterflies that were also colourful and overwhelming…so I have come up with the illusion of hundreds of butterflies bursting through the darkness into the light ~ with the children watching on in awe!

The main stamp set that I have used is an unnamed clear set of butterflies~ I used 5 of the butterflies, many times….lol.  And each individual butterfly also stands alone and is highlighted with glossy accents.
Also Fern Leaf by Lucy’s Stamps and CI 277 (the girls).

African Trio

Crafty Cardmakers is having a challenge that is “Use It Three Times.”
You can use a stamp, or a theme, or a style, three ways…
I’ve been busy making heaps of cards while I’m on holidays, and decided to enter some into this challenge.
I’ve used my african animal stamps, but mixed them up a little…and I have used alcohol inks on glossy cardstock and overstamped with the animals using Black Stayzon ink.
The common thread through the three cards are the
  • alcohol inks
  • the lion
  • masking technique
This challenge was heaps of fun!
Only one more follower to go before I have my card givaway!!! Woohoo!

    Love, Hope & Joy

Time to use your new stash!
At Fashionable Stamping Challenges that is exactly what we want you to do. And anything goes!
This week I wanted to have a go at a delicate and pretty card…and it reflects my new years’ wish to each of you.
Whatever path you are on, and where ever your journey takes you, the wish is the same…
    Love, Hope and Joy! xxx

Each year I buy myself something for xmas…last year it was a mirror in a swirly cast-iron frame (vintage gorgeous) – and it is still on the floor in my bedroom till I find someone to hang it for me!
(Shirley, our fearless leader, is working on that one for me…)

and this year I have bought Pan Pastels.

And I have been dying to have a play!!!!

I have blended some greens and a blue into the background.  Then I embossed with versamark and seafoam white embossing powder.  I used a leaf stamp and some versamark ink and overstamped all around the background…and then gently rubbed some green pan pastels over the top.  It gives a very delicate finish and more depth to the card.  At first I just used versamark…and this worked on the PP, but rubbing over just set it off that little bit more.
I pastelled up an extra sheet and used this for the torn corners and the words.  The words are also versamarked and rubbed over with a green PP.
All the edges have been distressed and inked.
Everything is flat on the card except for the buttlerflies which have been raised.

I hope you are inspired by the team to have a go and join in this fortnight.
Use anything new that you received over xmas (or even something you just haven’t had a chance to use yet, it is still new!)

    Stamps used are ~
Butterflies and words, from a clear stamp set.
Leaf is from a Stampin’ Up set.
The vines are from a Stamp-It, Micky Choo set.
    Dragonfly is PSX.
