Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend!

Red, Black and Brown
is the new theme this fortnight at FSC

Have you ever just really liked an stamp and then when you
get it you never quite know what to do with it?
That is how it was with my diamond stamp from
Stampers Anonymous!
Although I had seen Paula do some amazing pieces with it,
and I just had to have it!!!!
...I still had no idea what to do with it.

I eventually decided to mask my lady stamp (an old fav of mine)
and then use the diamond stamp behind her.
The overall idea was to keep things neutral
with a pop of red...and just a hint of brown.
So the odd flower (not all),
are tinged with red aqua crayons
and a slash of brown on the lady's hat.

The pink bit through the middle is just an area masked off with torn paper
that has been inked with spun sugar DI and edged with barn door.

The outer bits are coloured with London Fog Memento and black DI.
With a little grey crackle stamping.

The special effect this time around
is the use of a charcoal pencil
on the stenciled diamonds, which are done in texture paste.
The have been smudged with the pencil
so that they are in different shades of grey
(oh, I guess it is my version of 50 Shades of Grey lol)

Birds of a Feather...

"Birds of a Feather"
The new challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges
is "Birds"

I instantly thought of Spring
and wanted to show that through the birds.

I have a background that is inked in blues and picket fence and smooshed on a craft sheet.
Then overstamped with maple leaves.
I ordered in some lovely birds sitting on a line (because they looked cute)
then wondered what will I do with them.
Why did I do that??? I have no idea! lol
Finally I came up with the idea of stamping them onto a feather.

Oh no!
No feathers!
So I asked at the school where I work for everyone to look out for feathers for me. lol...really!
And the next day our illustrious Tim had assembled a small pile of duck feathers on my desk!
Thankyou Tim :)))

Using Colorbox Queue dye inks I very carefully stamped some feathers.

TIP: forget stamping on the fluffy bits...it just doesn't work!

But on the flat areas it stamps beautifully...so aim the main part of the stamp for that area.
I really like the end result.

I needed some focal bling to anchor the feather to the card
and finally decided on another bird.

As an afterthought I tied some hessian threads together
 and placed under the bird
~ and I think it kind of looks like a nest?
The bird is subtley coloured with water crayons (difficult to see)

The stamps used are from Darkroom Door, Kaisercraft, Kaszazz and Crafty Individual.

Vintage Love Affair

A Vintage Love Affair!

This month at Vintage Stamping Challenges we have a colour challenge ~
Blues, Browns and Beige.

With Valentines Day approaching I was in the mood for a nice romantic card....
Then I had the idea of wanting to create
a cocoon effect around an image of a couple in love.
To hopefully give the illusion of a hug, or an embrace,
and to show that special closeness that you feel share you are in love.

The image from Flonzcraft that I have used is

I masked the image and sprayed some Perfect Pearls for a little sheen.
The leaves are a punched out and coloured with DI's also.
I have made a junk bow using lots of left over ribbon and it has a gorgeous blue flower as it's center piece.
The background paper is from my stash, and inked around the edges.

The image is stamped onto layers of compressed toilet paper sheets,
which have been torn gently, peeled back and coloured with DI's.
And edged just a little with gold.
This is a really lovely technique and well worth a try.
I hope you can see the cocoon effect and feel the loooove!
Flonzcraft is generously offering $20 to spend at their online store,
along with the Highly Desirable pics
and Flonz himself (Leo) pics his favourite too!
So please come join in the fun of vintage,
spread the love
and see what you can create.

Enjoy!
