Friends...

"Friends"

I made this card on a lazy Saturday afternoon and on a whim
I emailed it to The Craft Stamper.
It is inspired by Kate Crane (The Kathryn Wheel)
and was created around the time that we were designing cards
for our journaling challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges.

Low and behold....they made contact and wanted to publish it!!!
Happy Dance number 1.

It was heaps of fun to make!
The main image and sentiment are from Art Journey...
and I just can't get enough of this stamp ~ I love it!

I wont get to see it for another 2 months
because that is when it is released here in Australia.
But the girls at FSC have been keeping an eye out for me
and Avril took some pics of it for me and sent them to me.
Thankyou so much Avril x

For now this is as close as I get to it.
So funny really.
It was a genuine shock when I realised that it was the Editor's Choice,
and a whole page!!!
Happy dance number 2.

Happy dance number 3 will probably be in a couple of months time!

Enjoy!

Life is Beautiful

Script/Book/Pages/Print
For our new challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges
we ask you to have fun getting creative with all sorts of text pieces.

I have loved looking at the amazing pieces that people have created using this style
but have never had a go...
so I am thrilled to bits to finally get into ripping into some pages...
I don't know about you but I found ripping a page out of a dictionary
a little naughty, but strangely liberating
(it helped heaps that it was only an old dictionary that I purchased from an op shop)

The background on this card started with a torn dictionary page
glued onto some cardstock.
Then I thought I would add some patterned tissue paper.
I left a couple of white cardstock areas clear...
then on with some blue and peacock feathers DI..I love this colour!
Then I stenciled some grunge paste through a harlequin mask
(another favourite of mine)
and coloured it again with DI.
I really liked how it looked and let it sit for a day untouched...
just because I liked it just as it was.

Suddenly I remembered that I hadn't actually done any stamping yet...
and seeing as it is a stamping challenge at FSC I reluctantly added some swirls.
I finished it off with stamping and masking some butterflies, cut them out
and mounted them onto black cardstock and just cut around the inside...leaving the edges black.
I attached these along with a lovely cut out from some graphic 45 paper.

Oh, and I added a couple of butterflies onto the top corner to balance it all out.

I hope you enjoy this card as it was heaps of fun to make.

For Julia...with thanks!

A couple of weeks ago I went to a political afternoon at a friend's house...
to meet the new local representative for Labor
as a lead up to an election that will take place later this year.
I don't want to bore you with politics, however a little background is necessary.

In a nutshell........3 days prior to this function, our PM (Julia),
representing the Labor Party in Australia,
called an internal caucus meeting to decide on the party's leader, and to end internal bickering.
The deal was that whoever lost was to leave politics.
So, as a result, Julia is no longer leading our country...and is leaving altogether.

On arriving at the function I was asked if I would design and make a card that would show our gratitude for all that she accomplished during her time as PM.
As a way of saying "thankyou"

So I said yes! Ok! It would be my honour!

Then I panicked!
Got excited...
Got scared...

I skyped Shirley in Ireland...swore heaps and said what do I do???
Her advice was to make a list of words to describe her and go from there.
And that is exactly what I did.

The common thread was her passion
~ so hearts represent the passion.
Pioneering leadership for women and copping so much flack on a sexist basis
~ that is the woman, representing suffragettes.
Her femininity
~ that is the pink and burgundy.
Her love for Australia
~ is the flowering gums
Her strength of character and nerves of steal
~ are the diamonds.
And I have left an opening to the right
~ which represents a passageway to whatever future she chooses to have.

The main stamps are from Australian companies
~ Darkroom Door for the words
~  flowering gums from Kaszazz
~ and the lady is from Crafty Individuals
(because Julia was born in Wales I think something from the UK is quite fitting)

All the flowering gums are cut out and raised to add movement and life to the leaves.
The lady has been coloured with DI's which were tinted with copper Perfect Pearls Mist, instead of water, and painted on.
Bleach was added around the flourishes for depth.
The diamonds are from the harlequin mask and I have used grunge paste and then coloured it.
And a little glitz and glamour to finish it off.

I hope I haven't bored you too much,
but because this card was a specific brief I thought I would explain my thinking during the process.

I really did enjoy making this card
and I am very satisfied within myself for how it has turned out.

Enjoy!

Flora and Fauna at FSC

It is Flora and Fauna time
at FSC

This topic is so open, it can be jungles, under the sea, the dunes, the bush, a paddock, on the farm
or anything and anywhere your mind wanders...
as long as there is an animal of some sort and a plant,
and of course some stamping,
then it will qualify this fortnight for our Flora and Fauna challenge.

I have gone with a woodland theme
with some birds and foliage.
It feels like something is missing...maybe I should've layered it up instead of keeping it as a one layer?
I guess some cards just leave you wondering, "what if" ...

The background is on specialty paper which mutes the colours slightly,
and I have used browns and mahogany distress inks.
A little bleach here and there (my favourite thing to do at the moment).
And some plain stamping.

The stamps are a mix from Flonzcraft, Kaszazz and Kaisercraft.

Flonz has a generous $20 voucher for the winner
along with the stampettes top pics, Saturday spotlights
and the occasional guest designer who plays along with us. FSC is a busy place to be!

Rub-On Resist

Rub On Resist

This time I am sharing a sailing card...
which has been inspired by Tim's May 12 tags
and still going with my teenage boy theme this week.

I live in a seaside city and occassionally we have The Endeavour sailing ship calling into port.
I have been on board this ship ~ and it is amazing!!!
It is a replica of the ship Capt. James Cook sailed around the world in between 1768-1771 ~ recording the first European sighting of the Australian east coast and they also recorded the first sightings of our aborigines...
(and set the scene for white settlement of our great country)
~ they then moved onto New Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
Capt James Cook died at Hawaii on his third voyage.

It is this history and interest that attracted me to this stamp in the first place.

I have never done a rub-on before...so I had to
visit a friend and borrow an icy-pole stick!

Then the grunge came out!

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed making this card.
I hope you enjoy it too.

Ripping up the Music!

Play Me A Song

This is another card for my teenage collection
and this one has the seal of approval because
my 16 year old son loooves it...lol

This is a one layer card.
The main stamp is the Guitar stamp from Darkroom Door
and the music is from Hot Off The Press.

The techniques used are through ripping a stencil
and adding a little bleach to tone down the reds and oranges
and to maybe help the bold centre blend with the music more.

Enjoy!

Lazy Hazy Days of Summer

I'm just sharing a really simple card today that I made last night for my teenage collection.
But I think it could really be for anyone.

I wanted to make something calming and relaxing to look at...
It is how I like my summer to be.

I don't think the colours are really showing well...but it is some distress inks blended
onto shiny cardstock and simply stamped on.
The seagulls have been bleached so that they stand out more.
It is almost a one layer card...the chit chat stickers are the only extra on this card.

And the stamps are from Katzelcraft and Chocolate Baroque.

Enjoy!

Added some layers, and some feminine touches with lace, bling and sparkle.

which can be spent on a huge range of goodies from his on-line store.

Post Cards From Afar!

It is Mail Art Time
at Fashionable Stamping Challenges!
This challenge is open to all sorts of interpretations from
postcards/stamps/envelopes and letters...
as long as it is mail inspired, is stamped, then it qualifies.

Like most of you, I have seen some wonderful pieces of mailart in blogland,
so it was awesome to finally give it a go!
This is a new style for me...but oh soooo much fun.
I didn't have to worry about having to embellish this time around, just stamping and inking
and layers.
The main postcards are on shiny cardstock, inked (because it goes on so well)
and flicked with water.  As I was only playing around, I decided to color the splats with some of the blue ink.
The main colours are blue and green with the background paper inked and stamped in browns.

The stamps used are a mix from Crafty Individuals, Flonzcraft and some posted to me from a friend...
only because I was a little short on stamps for this challenge.
 It is muchly appreciated.

Flonz has a generous $20 voucher for the winner
along with the stampettes top pics, Saturday spotlights
and the occasional guest designer who plays along with us. FSC is a busy place to be!
