“Sparkle”

“Sparkle In The Rain”

is one of the new stamp sets from Visible Image that I have been having a bit of fun with.
It is a silhouette stamp, but you can do so much with a silhouette.  So I thought I would show you something a little different.
For this card I used a scrap piece that had some blue Bister on it. I stamped the silhouette with Versamark, triple embossed it, cut it out, put it in the freezer, cracked it and then worked some dark blue DI into it.  This is not a new technique, but it looks quite modern on a Bister background…or you could use Brusho’s/Colourburst/or whatever you have handy.
Then I made up a background with the blue Bister.
Added a little bleach…around which I used a fine-liner.
Punched out some left over card and edged it.
And I used an “Edgy” stamp to add a little border.

For fun I would like to enter this into the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge – We Can See Clearly…my interpretation being the layers of clear embossing powder that was cracked and inked up.

Dreams

Dreams…
It is my turn over at Visible Image today and I wanted to share a card that I have made for my son.
He has just started uni in the city, and so he is on the next part of his journey in life.
I thought this saying from Visible Image might be a nice piece for him to have in his room on campus.
The stamps combine the old with the new.  I love the versatility of the stamps in general at Visible Image.
To make this I have prepared the background with gesso and then some modeling paste through a Tim stencil.
Over the top of this I have added some H2O’s in bright colours.
And a little DI, in matching colours, just to intensify the colour a little more.
The words and the dragonflies were stamped onto tissue paper and applied with mat medium.  Then I just added a little more of the distress colours to the wings and around the words to blend in any little bits of tissue paper that were still showing.
A little splattered gesso, some edging with black soot and a little bit of white gel pen were used to finish it all off.

Enjoy!

Butterflies

Butterflies
is our latest challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges.
(chosen by me this time!)

We haven’t had butterflies as a challenge for some years at FSC, and I think most people have at least one butterfly stamp!  Do you?

My card fits beautifully with International Women’s Day I think…and I have really enjoyed how women of all ages are starting to embrace this time and support each other in so many ways.
A shout out to my friend Jenny who is involved with “Around the World with 80 Artists” where a proportion of the funds go to the Malala Fund to help educate girls…well worth checking out!
The stamp that I have used is a new butterfly stamp (for me anyway) from Indigoblu called “Big Butterfly”

I  made the butterfly the way I had imagined it…and then…
I had absolutely no idea what I was going to put in the background!
That’s a first for me, it’s usually the other way around.

After cutting it out I thought that maybe I could layer it up somehow…nope…it wasn’t working for me.
~  then I thought perhaps I could create a mixed media piece with it…nope…so I walked away for a day or so, as you do.
Finally, I settled on a one-layer card as the way forward for me.
So I re-stamped the whole piece again and started over.

The butterfly is wet embossed.
The left side of the butterfly was coloured using Inktense pencils and DI (used as a watercolour)…for a punch of brightness.
The right side, which was only half inked up, was masked and stamped with the lady in grey ink and then the face stamp in black ink.
The background colours, yellows/oranges and grey, were chosen from the main image.
Then it was a matter of stenciling, stamping with print and Finnabair circles, splats with Color Bloom spray, inked lids for circles and some spritz and flicking with bleach.
So I guess really it is a mixed media piece after-all.
And it didn’t quite end up as a one-layer piece…as the printed circles were cut out and stuck on…so close!
The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the same theme.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of their creativity,
be inspired, and maybe join in our fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 picked by the DT as well.

Stamping must be the focal point on your project!

Enjoy!

“Sparkle In The Rain”

Sparkle In The Rain
is one of the new gorgeous stamp sets put out by Visible Image.
It is a beautiful silhouette!
After inking up part of the background with distress inks,
I have flicked a little bleach onto the background for more of a wintry effect.  Then flicked a little Distress ink in the white area to bring it all together.
And of course a little doodling just for fun!
