Come Fly With Me.

Come Fly With Me

is my latest inspiration piece for Rubber Dance.

The Challenge this fortnight at Rubber Dance is all about using ribbon, or string, on your work.  Now I have to be honest – rarely do I ever use ribbon, or flowers, or the colour pink … in anything that I make.  Okay, sometimes a little pink lol.  So the string and ribbon in this card may be a little hard to see.

I found some pretty scrap ribbon hidden away in the bottom box on the shelf.  This had a row of gold beads down the center, so I’ve cut the material bits away just leaving the beads.  I’ve run some string through my black ink pad, and the two bits together made for a lovely tail and antennae for my butterfly.

Fly-Fly Flowers

Fly – Fly Flowers

by Rubber Dance is the feature stamp on this card.

It’s the start of a new month and that means it’s colour challenge time at Rubber Dance.

The colours this month are yellow, purple and pink.  These colours are so bright, Summery and happy!

I’ve been playing with the new oxides again and came up with this background.  The trouble with the oxides is that you just want to keep on playing.   The Fly-Fly Flowers stamp seemed like the perfect fanciful image to put on the background.

The zentagle image, designed by the talented Melina Dahl, was a nice contrast to the inky background that I was making.  I wanted to keep some sections of the image white so that it stood out a little more and didn’t get lost in the background.

The Worm That Got Away!

The Worm That Got Away!

is a play with distress oxides, masking, doodling and a little a whole heap of fun with Rubber Dance stamps!

It is also my inspiration piece for the new challenge this month which is – “Summer Holidays.”

Living near the sea, fishing is a HUGE summer pastime – okay, let’s face it, it’s a HUGE all-year-round pastime!  Knowing guys that fish a lot … and often catch nothing (yes, I said it!) … this card is for them lol.

Wow, how disappointed do the fish look!!!

lol…and how happy does that worm look that he got away!!!

Stamps Used:

Something Fishy

A Little Play With Art

A Little Play With Art

is what I ended up doing while making this colour challenge card for Rubber Dance.

The colours this fortnight are Blue, Sea Green and Sand.  Summer is definitely settling in up in the Northern Hemisphere.

After masking my sculpture image I’ve used Distress Oxides to create a background with the help of some clear plastic and stencils.  What I am quickly loving about the oxides is just how well you can stamp with them! Leonardo, who is in the background looking at his art, and some other background stamping is all done with the oxides. It is so clear, and as long as I dry between layers, the colour sits on top of whatever is under it.  Even the hearts are stamped in oxides!

It’s so clear!!!  Amazing!

To finish, the background has some black stamping and mark making, the main image is water-coloured with oxides and some words are added. Oh, and I lifted a little of the oxides off Leonardo’s face – it isn’t as effective as distress inks and you have to be careful not to touch the image itself.

Stamps Used:

da Vinci Body Sketch

da Vinci Old Man

Old Book Page (background)

Textured Flowers (background)

Rule Of Three

Rule Of Three is the new challenge at Rubber Dance this fortnight.

I was recently at a craft retreat and decided to have a play with acrylic paint, gesso and ink and came up with this background.  Because it was in neutral colours I decided to keep the flowers white.

This was one of those pieces that was a play with building up a background … with no idea of where it was heading.

The string was added last as an after thought – but I think that it adds to the neutral feel of the card. For a splash of colour I’ve added a little yellow.

Stamps used are: Textured Flowers and Old Book Page.
