“Child’s Play” at FSC

Child’s Play
is the new challenge at FSC this fortnight!

Remember, stamping must be the focal point of your creation…then just and follow the theme and you are win with a chance of winning!
Childhood is so different these days compared to how it was
when I was little.  But I am sure that the kids of today will end up with many happy memories as they grow older.
For me, life was an adventure…everyday.
~ lots of exploring, playing cowboys and indians with my brother, yonny wars with the neighbours, neighbourhood concerts, swimming, taddy-ing, jungles, bonfires, bike-riding, go-karts
~ the list goes on and on.
I don’t think I was a tom-boy (though the block was mainly boys) because my dolls had the whole linen cupboard as their home…with many stories to live in.
Some really nice memories 🙂

I didn’t realise how few child stamps that I had.
Maybe because my kids are old teenagers now so it isn’t really on my radar anymore.
So I have made do with a stamp that I do have.
There are a couple of first’s in this make for me:
this is my first go at using a dictionary page with my stamps…
and it is most definitely something I will do again!
The main stamp is from Art Journey
and I have just cut part of the stamped image out from the whole thing.
I figured that it is just another way of using our stamps.
In hindsight, I would add some shading around the image…so I’ll do that next time.
And I’ve added a few ladybirds for embellies…just because it was one of my favourite bugs. It was always a special day when you found one under a leaf (true!) – plus it’s a nice change from butterflies.
The background is a happy accident (is that a kind of a first?)
which I wont go into just yet as it it something that I really want to take a step further.

So, go ahead, remember your youth, and see what you can bring to life with this challenge 🙂

The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the theme this time.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of the fashionettes,
be inspired and maybe join in the fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 as well.

Enjoy!

“It’s a Man Thing”

“It’s A Man Thing”
is the new theme at Vintage Stamping Challenges
this month.
There are so many possibilities with this one…you could make a valentine’s
card to your man, go sporty, cars, wild west or anything with a man in it would be fine.
When I saw this stamp set here I knew just what I was going to do.
LOTS OF MEN!
I think I used nearly every man in the set…but it was heaps of fun.
The colours I have kept with shaded bluey/greys…
everything I tried just didn’t seem to look right. But I do like how the colours have come out.
Lots of masking, a little stenciling, some cracked UTEE, a little gold and of course
some hearts (because I love men!)
I think sometimes you just need to keep things simple so that the stamps can shine.
I hope you take the time to pop over to Vintage Stamping Challenges
and check out the amazing talent and ideas from the team.

Tag It!

“Tag It”
Is the theme this fortnight at
We invite you to join in the fun and see what you can make with a tag…or two…
Some of you might know that I have only ever made a tag
when I am asked to for the challenges…up to three now!
I don’t know why I struggle with it at the time
but end up enjoying the whole process.
I’ve been on holidays from my main work
(but filling in at a second job) for the last month or so,
tutoring and whaleboat training for the championships coming up in a few weeks time…
oh, and a little freelance designing and another card has been accepted by
The Craft Stamper (2 submissions and 2 publications. – that just blows me away!)
But nowhere near enough play time with inks!!!
I have used a tag base from Darkroom Door
which measures around 6 1/4″ x 3 1/4″.
I am still trying to come to grips with layering up my work,
as I really like to do the one layer type of card.
But I have been taking part in the
Creative Jumpstart 2014 program
for January and have found some really inspirational ideas and techniques.
I highly recommend having some fun with the on-line classes out there
~ especially when distance is such a problem ( like for me.)
This tag is based on
It was something new to try (for me anyway).
It involves a lot masking tape, ink and layers…perfect for this challenge!
Back to work (main job) on Tuesday so maybe I can get into more of a routine.
The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the theme this time.

“Fallen Angel”

It’s all about Autumn Colours
Autumn is my favourite time of the year.
The intense heat has gone, the days are sunny and calm
and the nights are a little cooler.
The grass stops growing, the weeds slow down and
the nights draw in.
Everything seems at peace…
The colours of Autumn can be intense, bright, and in stark
contrast to the slowing down of the season.
This card has the intensity of the Autumn for the background
and the softness of the sepia in the front
to give the contrast and contradiction of the season.
I really wanted to show you the background for this piece…
one, because you can’t see it when the toppers go on…
and two, because I made a mistake – can you see it?
I accidentally used the embossing folder the wrong side up on one side…
so the left-hand side is backwards, and on the right-hand side it is the right-side up.
I loooove how it turned out though
and I will definitely be making this mistake again.
When it is lightly sanded, the two halves blend into each other very subtly I think.
This is just a close up of the leaves
which have been stamped with Archival Potting Soil,
then spritzed with copper glimmer mist
and then with heirloom gold.

“In the Garden”

In The Garden

In my part of the world Spring is definitely in the air!
To this little butterfly (me)
that means 2 things ~ weeds and mowing!
So I stepped back for a moment when I made this card
and reflected on the quiet time in the garden.
This image from Flonzcraft was perfect for what I had in mind
and can be found here.
I love the techniques on the background on this card.
I have added some inked up paper to some corrugated card
and then stripped some away…and then I also sanded some back.
I love the texture it has created and it is definitely on my “do again” list!
The heart is die cut and then swished through some ink on a craft mat.
The image is only lightly coloured so that it stands out more against the grunge background.

I hope you take the time to pop over to Vintage Stamping Challenges
and check out the amazing talent and ideas from the team.
