“You Are Always On My Mind”

“People”
Whether it is one person or many, this is the theme this fortnight at Fashionable Stamping Challenges.
A few weeks ago I went to my first ever craft retreat…OMG, how much fun are these to go to!  There were over 40 ladies in one large room crafting away without a care in the world…crafting until we dropped.
It is fair to say that I loved getting up and wandering over in my pj’s and sitting down to craft, eat, craft, sleep, and craft all over again….
This is the card that I ended up with at the end of the first day.
Once again it uses some new background ideas that I picked up from Marjie Kemper’s on-line Mixed Media class.
(yep – having a ball with thinking a little differently)
I have used a honey-comb stencil 3 ways – applying ink straight through the stencil; inking the stencil, spritzing water on it and ‘stamping’ with it; and ‘stamping’ using straight water on it.
Because there is a torn piece of paper on this, I have coloured the image on this with one of the colours from the background, and on the other half I have coloured with lifting the ink with water and also using a white gel pen.
It is a play-around card, but I liked how it turned out.
The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the theme this time.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of their creativity,
be inspired and maybe join in the fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 as well.

Stamping must be the focal point on your project!

I hope you enjoy my card.

“Lovey Dovey” at FSC

This fortnight we are all in LOVE!!!
That’s right, we have the lovey-dovey thing going on at FSC.
This is open to animals in pairs, first love, bridal and romance…
whatever you interpret lovey dovey stuff to be.
For this challenge I have decided on a bridal card.
The idea that I had was to have a plain-ish style
but with some technique involved.
I think that wedding cards should be stylish and not over-done, but that’s me…kind of classic (ummm, the card that is, not me lol)
For this card, the top layer is all in one layer.
Some of you may have heard of the ‘out-of-the-box’ technique,
well, this card is kind of the reverse
so I’m calling it the ‘in-the-box’ technique.
It uses a heart die behind which I have put some card that has been coloured with re-inkers (Wendy Vecchi style).
On the front I have stamped, coloured with Distress Inks and used stencils and negative stencilling (is that a technique???)
And, of course, there’s a little doodling to finish it off!

“Poor Teddie”

“Sew What”
It is all about the sewing at FSC this fortnight!
Those that know me, know that I am not into sewing…at all…
so this challenge stretched my imagination a little.
(which is always a good thing)
When I saw these teddy stamps and the whole thing fell into place.
These teddies look like ‘well-loved’ favourite toys
that just need a little tender care and some re-vamping
– and that is where the sewing comes into it!
It kind of reminds me of the gifts we are given to us when we are a baby that we hang onto forever…
the ones that we would never ever throw out…
The main panel is done in my all-time favourite techniques of
one-layer stamping and masking.
They just go together so naturally and give you that extra depth and dimension to your work.
Great for telling a story with your stamping!

A little distressing, a little bleach-blocking in the background (another favourite technique), and
a whole lot of love, make up this card.
well almost…I couldn’t resist a little poking with a needle in the arm at the last minute…
(for mending purposes of course! lol)
The colours are done with worn lipstick and some vintage photo.

“May the Wings of a Butterfly Kiss the Sun…”

“May the Wings of a Butterfly Kiss the Sun”
The challenge this fortnight at Fashionable Stamping Challenges
is to use your favourite ‘go-to’ stamp!
We all have them…those stamps that we go to often when we need them.  The good all-rounders that fill in the blank spots.
Often, for me, it is the background stamps that I go to often…
So for this challenge I have gone to my trusty leaves stamp and some butterflies.
The trick is to do something different with them so that your cards
don’t all end up looking the same…like I said…tricky!
So, with that in mind, I have stamped the leaves with white gesso, dried and then stamped over the top with Archival Jet Black ink.
Because my gesso is getting a little old it is slightly gluggy
which gives a lovely textured effect.
When I stamped over the top in black, the textured bits look like veins on the leaves.
Now that is a happy accident!!!
For the butterflies I have stamped them on vellum
and coloured with alcohol ink markers on the back,
cut them out and folded them so that the wings lift up.
The effect here is quite soft and fits beautifully with the pastel tones of the distress paints in the background.
And to finish I just added a new sentiment which I think fits well.

All stamps are from Kaszazz.

So there you have it, a card made with two stamps that I use as fillers, a happy accident and a sentiment.
I hope you feel inspired to join in our challenge…you’ll
find your stamps probably still sitting on your craft bench, or sink, ready to be cleaned.
We have lots of prizes up for grabs!
And loads of inspiration from the girls at FSC.
Enjoy!
I would like to enter this card into the following challenges.

“(I love) the Flower Girl…”

SPRINGTIME
is the new challenge at FSC this fortnight!
If you make a project with anything that is fresh, sunny, colourful or even with flowers,
then you will be up and running for this challenge.

I would like to thank everyone for your awesome comments last time, it blows me away each and every time how supportive and caring the crafty/bloggy world is!

My gosh, is it just me, or does this year seem to be flying past very fast at the moment?
It is actually Autumn here, but Spring is such a beautiful time of year
~ lots of fresh new leaves on the trees, birds everywhere, baby animals, flowers and SUNSHINE!
For my card this time I have gone with fresh and green.
Mowed Lawn Distress Ink isn’t a colour that I have used much of…
but I thought it would be perfect for this card
as it is the juiciest and greenest ink that I have!!!
To set it all off, add freshness
and to make the Mowed Lawn stand out more
I have complimented it with black and white .
This stamp is by Kaszazz – she is a beautiful stamp just on her own,
so I have left her plain.
With a hint of green on the garland in her hair and on her dress.  Nothing fancy.
She reminds me of the song about “The Flower Girl” which is now stuck in my head! So here is the link to the song.

The background is made using an acrylic block.
And the flowers coloured with Alcohol Ink Markers.
And for those following my blog regularly – yes, I have used my crop-o-dile again,
this time for something different in the center of the flowers 🙂
