Geo Flowers for Visible Image

Having fun with  my Visometry Set #1

I use to have a book that had repeated patterns in it…the idea being that you had to see what images popped out at you, then you colour it in.
This set was like that for me.
And what popped out were…flowers!
I’ve used the image for the flower heads, then cut some bits off an extra one that I made and turned them into leaves.
The flower stems were from the Thank You Set.  I really like how you can shape the stem into any angle that you like.
The background is a little crackle paste coloured with dylusions sprays…and a little splatter of paint.

Butterflies

Butterflies
is our latest challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges.
(chosen by me this time!)

We haven’t had butterflies as a challenge for some years at FSC, and I think most people have at least one butterfly stamp!  Do you?

My card fits beautifully with International Women’s Day I think…and I have really enjoyed how women of all ages are starting to embrace this time and support each other in so many ways.
A shout out to my friend Jenny who is involved with “Around the World with 80 Artists” where a proportion of the funds go to the Malala Fund to help educate girls…well worth checking out!
The stamp that I have used is a new butterfly stamp (for me anyway) from Indigoblu called “Big Butterfly”

I  made the butterfly the way I had imagined it…and then…
I had absolutely no idea what I was going to put in the background!
That’s a first for me, it’s usually the other way around.

After cutting it out I thought that maybe I could layer it up somehow…nope…it wasn’t working for me.
~  then I thought perhaps I could create a mixed media piece with it…nope…so I walked away for a day or so, as you do.
Finally, I settled on a one-layer card as the way forward for me.
So I re-stamped the whole piece again and started over.

The butterfly is wet embossed.
The left side of the butterfly was coloured using Inktense pencils and DI (used as a watercolour)…for a punch of brightness.
The right side, which was only half inked up, was masked and stamped with the lady in grey ink and then the face stamp in black ink.
The background colours, yellows/oranges and grey, were chosen from the main image.
Then it was a matter of stenciling, stamping with print and Finnabair circles, splats with Color Bloom spray, inked lids for circles and some spritz and flicking with bleach.
So I guess really it is a mixed media piece after-all.
And it didn’t quite end up as a one-layer piece…as the printed circles were cut out and stuck on…so close!
The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the same theme.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of their creativity,
be inspired, and maybe join in our fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 picked by the DT as well.

Stamping must be the focal point on your project!

Enjoy!

FSC Thank You!

This month we say THANK YOU!

We would love you to join in our fun at FSC with a piece that says thank you, or gratitude.
It can be about reflecting on the past year and what we are grateful for moving forward, it can be about appreciating what we have to be grateful for, or a simple thank you!
I chose a simple Thank You.
Thank you FSC for taking me on many years ago and teaching me so much, and giving me the opportunity to meet so many amazing people…
thank you, too, for stopping by and taking the time to see what I am up to and leaving so many super kind and encouraging words…
and thank you to my friends who give me a ‘kick-up-the-…’ occasionally when I need it and help me to move forward when I sometimes feel stuck.
Gee, where would we be without friends!
I am still trying to find my way with what I learned at a Finnabair class.
This piece started out as a tag…then turned into a canvas…and ended up as a large card.  I rescued the flowers part, added some ribbon and material, a few splats and some stamping.
I shabbied it up a little with distressing and gesso and I am really pleased with how it turned out.
The image is a new one that I have from Deep Red.  No matter how many times I had mucked this up I was determined to use that stamp!  She is just gorgeous!!!

All About the Men.

All About the Men
is the latest challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges.
We are now a monthly challenge blog, so we hope you have the time to join us.
When I saw this stamp from Brett Weldele it reminded me so much of my dad.  I think it has taken me about a year to actually give in and buy it.
Dad worked for the Portland Harbour Trust, helped build the silo’s, worked on the wharves, was a diver and ended up on the tug boats.
I have so many wonderful memories as a kid; like trying on his diving gear, many hours down at the wharves checking out the boats and the most awesome xmas parties in the silo’s themselves.
He was ‘union’ through-and-through (so probably explains a lot about me lol)
Anyway, this image reminds me of him so that is the inspiration for this card…

This is a large card, inspired by some new techniques that I learnt at a scrapbook workshop recently…
Isn’t it funny how as card makers we sometimes find the scrapbooking size quite large, well, I found out that scrappers sometimes find it difficult to make cards – too small!  Go figure!!!

A close-up of some of the detail…

The medium used on this one is dylusions inks and water colours.

This pic shows some of the colouring with watercolours.
It turned out a little rustic and left me feeling like an artist…and I loved how it turned out!

I would like to enter this into the following challenges:
~ Craft Stamper Challenge – Take a Stamp, Anything Goes

3D at FSC

“Spread Your Wings and Fly”
It is all about 3D this fortnight at FSC
and you can 3D any object you like,
but it must be an object
and it must have stamping on it, of course!
The stamping must be the focal point of your creation.
This fortnight we have the super talented and so inspiring
Alison from Words and Pictures.
If you haven’t found her blog yet,
or just want to go browsing again,
please pop on over and leave her some love…
it’s a beautiful blog to visit.
We live is a 3D world and spend so much of our creative time putting our ideas down onto card.
Well, not this fortnight. It’s all about shaped items.
I went to the local bargain store and found a picture frame on sale ~ ~ for half price, and thought that will do!
before
It was pretty tacky –
that’s probably why they had reduced the price.
It was definitely in need of fixing up!
after
I decided not to colour the frame
as I really wanted the picture in the middle to be the main focus.
Also, I thought that to add too much to the frame
it would have been too cluttered
and the image would have be lost.
Why is it so hard to keep it simple!
This gorgeous image (which I first saw used by Avril) has been a long time favourite of mine.
It always reminds me of Mia Farrow.
The image is totally feminine to me, seductive, quiet and tasteful with a touch of mystery.
To bring the butterflies from the image to the edge I simply used some distress stains on card
and spritzed some water, stamped the butterfly and cut it out.
There are 2 more at the bottom of the frame.
