Getting My Vintage On!
I’m excited to be a Guest Creative Guide at
A Vintage Journey today!

I’ve been invited by Nikki to inspire you to use crackle on your creative pieces.
When I went to grab my crackle paste it had all dried up…so I went for my favourite crackle stamp instead.  I love stamping so it was fun just play with stamps.
Here is my creation for you…using a new stamp set from Stampers Anonymous called ‘Sideshow’, some distress crayons, inks, stencils
and my crackle stamp!

My usual style is one-layer, but for this challenge I’ve gone with some layers.
The crackle is used to give a vintagey feel.

The main panel is stamped with distress inks.  Every time I looked at the umbrella man holding out the umbrella, I kept thinking that he needed to have something under it…
so I went for man’s best friend – a dog!

The dog was stamped with distress inks first, masked, and then the man was stamped.
It really didn’t need masking, but did it anyway just to be on the safe side in case he didn’t quite fit.

I discovered that when using my new Misti (love this gadget!!!), I could add some black soot to the edges of the image and re-stamp it.
It gives a lovely two-tone effect which I quite like…and will definitely be doing this again!

I have to admit that the background was soooo much fun to make!
It is made with distress crayons, lifting some off using a baby wipe through a rectangle stencil.
I have highlighted some of the rectangles using water colour pencils so that they popped a little more.
A little over-stamping with some words and crackle stamps gives it all a gorgeous vintage effect I think.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by.
I hope you have enjoyed this vintage piece.
Pop on over to A Vintage Journey and check it out.

Enjoy!

I am entering this in the Craft Stamper November challenge…

“Love Birds”

Ribbons and Bows
is the new challenge at Vintage Stamping Challenge
for the month of May.
These may not be actual love birds on this Flonz stamp (found here), but they are snuggling up
so I am imagining that that is what they are.
And with Spring coming out up North
it seemed like a nice romantic, cuddly
Spring thing to stamp.
I bought myself a brayer last year…which I have only used once (shame, and shaking my head)
~ so on a whim I thought it might be nice to play with it.
I love the textured look that some of the rolling produced
and was really surprised by how easy it was.
Why haven’t I got into this before???
Keeping with the theme of romance, that was stuck in my head,
I thought pinks were a pretty colour to use.
For the ribbon part of the challenge I have made a junk bow and placed a flower on it.
If you use your imagination, the junk bow is almost
like a nest!
I hope you take the time to pop over to
and check out the amazing talent and ideas from the team.
Flonzcraft is offering a generous $20 gift voucher to the winner,
he offers an occasional spot prize
and there is always a top 3!

“Vintage Girl”

“Anything Goes”
is the new challenge at Vintage Stamping Challenges this month.
Everyone loves an anything goes challenge! I sure do.
For this one I made a card with lots of ink and one of my
all-time favourite Flonz stamps.
The background is the wrinkle-free technique using distress inks,
which was stamped with the Japanese blossom stamp, with a little bleach added to white out the blossom.
Some over-stamping using writing and crackles…
a little embossing which was sanded and inked up…
and a heart stencil placed behind the girl were all used to make this main panel.
Some layers, distressing, ribbon and lace finished it all off.
The one thing that I absolutely love about VSC
is that I get to play at “pretty” and vintage cards.
You don’t have to do this though,
to join in you just have to have fun
and do what ever you like this time around.
I hope you take the time to pop over to
and check out the amazing talent and ideas from the team.

Summer Lovin’

“Anything Goes”
is the challenge this fortnight at FSC
which means you can just follow your heart and create
anything that comes to mind.
For me…it is the drawing to an end of summer,
and for those of you up North ~ the sun is hopefully starting to pop through.
With promises of good things to come.
For me, this is a very relaxed style of card after what has been a very hectic few months.

My card is once again playing with the Wendy Vecchi waterclour
style of background…
and letting the pattern created guide what I make.
What came out was a contrast between a
vintage style beach scene on one side…
and a light and airy, freer style of the other side represented with the flying gulls.
This is a one layer card using the ripping technique, stenciling
and lots of masking.
And a little bleach on the water and the gulls to add some white.
The other thing that I have been up to lately,
and has been taking up a lot of my crafting time, is whaleboat rowing!
Our boats have 5 rowers and 1 sweep which is a little different to the American style
which has 10 people on the boat.
The Australian Whaleboat Championships were held over in Warrnambool last weekend.
I rowed for the women’s team and “swept” (steered) for the mixed team.
And both teams won!!!
After nearly 2 months of training and a big weekend
I ended up totally stuffed and washed out…and a bit sunburnt!
So I really would like to share a pic of me steering the whaleboat,
I hope you don’t mind…
Turning the boat and looking for the finish line.

And me with 2 medals ~ just before I fell in an absolute heap!
Back to business!!!
The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on our theme this time.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of the fashionettes,
be inspired and maybe join in the fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 as well.
Enjoy!
I would like to enter my card into the following challenges…

Tag It!

“Tag It”
Is the theme this fortnight at
We invite you to join in the fun and see what you can make with a tag…or two…
Some of you might know that I have only ever made a tag
when I am asked to for the challenges…up to three now!
I don’t know why I struggle with it at the time
but end up enjoying the whole process.
I’ve been on holidays from my main work
(but filling in at a second job) for the last month or so,
tutoring and whaleboat training for the championships coming up in a few weeks time…
oh, and a little freelance designing and another card has been accepted by
The Craft Stamper (2 submissions and 2 publications. – that just blows me away!)
But nowhere near enough play time with inks!!!
I have used a tag base from Darkroom Door
which measures around 6 1/4″ x 3 1/4″.
I am still trying to come to grips with layering up my work,
as I really like to do the one layer type of card.
But I have been taking part in the
Creative Jumpstart 2014 program
for January and have found some really inspirational ideas and techniques.
I highly recommend having some fun with the on-line classes out there
~ especially when distance is such a problem ( like for me.)
This tag is based on
It was something new to try (for me anyway).
It involves a lot masking tape, ink and layers…perfect for this challenge!
Back to work (main job) on Tuesday so maybe I can get into more of a routine.
