Posts Tagged ‘Acetate’

is the theme this month at FSC.
For this theme I immediately thought of a sunset in Africa.
The moon is rising, large and white, over the Serengeti with a solitary tree.
And just in case you couldn’t pick that it is in Africa, I’ve added a couple of animals.
The scene itself is done with distress inks.
The giraffe is done with Inktense pencils…they are new to me and I wanted to have a play with them.  I used watercolour paper so that it wouldn’t break up with the more water that I added to it.
I only had one monkey stamp, so I partially stamped it onto some acetate with Stayzon ink – then flipped it over and did the same on the other side to get a mirror image.
They were then coloured in using alcohol ink markers.
It was tempting to add more…but I was brave and stopped!
The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the same theme.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of their creativity,
be inspired, and maybe join in our fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 picked by the DT as well.

Stamping must be the focal point on your project!

FSC goes all Sentimental…

is the new challenge at FSC this fortnight.
I have chosen a sentimental journey for my piece,
however you can of course use a sentiment/sayings if you  like.
We have the wonderfully talented  Suzanne from Suzanne’s Papercrafting joining us as a GD
so please pop on over and check out her work and leave a little love.

My thoughts on this went back to the olden days in the country with many days at my nana’s house
 playing with cousins,
collecting chook eggs,
playing family cricket games in the back paddock
and the family feasts!
I am from a small country town where we made our own fun
and enjoyed the wide open spaces…
– the whole town was our backyard!
It is a time long since gone, but the memories are treasures.

This piece is a collage of different elements from those days
and has been made to be touched, with lots of bits and pieces.
The main image is a Crafty Individual’s stamp
stamped in archival ink on specialty paper as I wanted to have a strong back and white image
with muted sepia tones and a little pop of colour added as a backdrop to represent the past.
This is vintage in style, though it is very different to how I would usually do it.
 I enjoyed the journey
and hope that you will come along and play with us this fortnight.
The stampettes have once again come up with some great inspiration to tempt you into playing along…
and Flonz has a generous $20 voucher for the winner
along with the stampettes top pics, saturday spotlights
and the occasional guest designer who plays along with us.

Birds of a Feather…

“Birds of a Feather”
The new challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges
is “Birds”

I instantly thought of Spring
and wanted to show that through the birds.

I have a background that is inked in blues and picket fence and smooshed on a craft sheet.
Then overstamped with maple leaves.
I ordered in some lovely birds sitting on a line (because they looked cute)
then wondered what will I do with them.
Why did I do that??? I have no idea! lol
Finally I came up with the idea of stamping them onto a feather.
Oh no!
No feathers!
So I asked at the school where I work for everyone to look out for feathers for me. lol…really!
And the next day our illustrious Tim had assembled a small pile of duck feathers on my desk!
Thankyou Tim :)))

Using Colorbox Queue dye inks I very carefully stamped some feathers.

TIP: forget stamping on the fluffy bits…it just doesn’t work!

But on the flat areas it stamps beautifully…so aim the main part of the stamp for that area.
I really like the end result.
I needed some focal bling to anchor the feather to the card
and finally decided on another bird.

As an afterthought I tied some hessian threads together

 and placed under the bird
~ and I think it kind of looks like a nest?
The bird is subtley coloured with water crayons (difficult to see)

The stamps used are from Darkroom Door, Kaisercraft, Kaszazz and Crafty Individual.

Marina at Cottage Crafts is offering an online voucher to her store for the winner,
runners up and spotlights are up for grabs to!

“Love Is In The Air”

 “Love Is In The Air”
Love is everywhere at FSC at the moment with half the team having anniversaries.
Congratulations everyone…and I hope you all get spoilt heaps by your families.
(Ellie ~ 25 years)
(Shirley ~ 30 years)
(Sylvia ~ 30 years)
(Caz ~ 40+)
(Paula ~ 28)
Our theme this fortnight at FSC is Nature
and I have chosen butterflies for my focus…hence the sounds of love is in the air.
And I send heaps of love to all my teamies who are celebrating!
My First Card
This card has been distressed to the max…in gorgeous pumice stone, black and dusty concord…and to make the whole lot pop…I added highlights of tumbled glass.
The heart stamp is on acetate (yes…again!) with stayzon ink
and coloured with aqualip pens on the flip side.
I was 3/4 finished with this easel card when I had an idea of throwing in some psychedelic pink butterflies…
and sprayed up some dylusional sprays, stamped the butterflies, added DI, cut and added in a way that the wings are raised.
This is a close up of the inside of the easel card to show you how well the colours go together.
I love distressing my inks!
My 2nd Card
For  a change of pace I have created a second card in black, white and silver.
The centre piece is a reverse embossing technique, where it is cut and joined together with the opposite colour.
The flourish highlights are shadow stamped and embossed because it is on shiny silver cardstock.
I also had my first go with my new cropodile.
I have layered the centrepiece and added lots of bling to bring out the femininity.
Yes…black and white can be feminine! lol
Thankyou to all my new followers, I hope you enjoy my journey.
And please, everyone head over to Fashionable Stamping Challenges and see what all the fashionettes have come up with for this theme…
Everyone is so very different and each person shows us nature at it’s finest.
