“Celebrate the Sun”

“Celebrate the Sun”
is a card that that I have made just for fun!
Part of the fun was with a brayer yesterday…
and it was crying out for a silhouette!
Winter is coming to and end….slowly!
and thoughts of Summer are starting to enter my head (bring it on!!!)
o.k. so we have Spring first, but at least it wont be so cold.
Isn’t it funny how whatever season we are in our thoughts often go to another one?
The background is made using Wendy’s Archival colours
and brayered lavishly.
Then these gorgeous Art Journey stamps
just seemed so ‘right’ for the background.
Enjoy!

I am entering this into the Art Journey “Sun” challenge.

“Child’s Play” at FSC

Child’s Play
is the new challenge at FSC this fortnight!

Remember, stamping must be the focal point of your creation…then just and follow the theme and you are win with a chance of winning!
Childhood is so different these days compared to how it was
when I was little.  But I am sure that the kids of today will end up with many happy memories as they grow older.
For me, life was an adventure…everyday.
~ lots of exploring, playing cowboys and indians with my brother, yonny wars with the neighbours, neighbourhood concerts, swimming, taddy-ing, jungles, bonfires, bike-riding, go-karts
~ the list goes on and on.
I don’t think I was a tom-boy (though the block was mainly boys) because my dolls had the whole linen cupboard as their home…with many stories to live in.
Some really nice memories ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t realise how few child stamps that I had.
Maybe because my kids are old teenagers now so it isn’t really on my radar anymore.
So I have made do with a stamp that I do have.
There are a couple of first’s in this make for me:
this is my first go at using a dictionary page with my stamps…
and it is most definitely something I will do again!
The main stamp is from Art Journey
and I have just cut part of the stamped image out from the whole thing.
I figured that it is just another way of using our stamps.
In hindsight, I would add some shading around the image…so I’ll do that next time.
And I’ve added a few ladybirds for embellies…just because it was one of my favourite bugs. It was always a special day when you found one under a leaf (true!) – plus it’s a nice change from butterflies.
The background is a happy accident (is that a kind of a first?)
which I wont go into just yet as it it something that I really want to take a step further.

So, go ahead, remember your youth, and see what you can bring to life with this challenge ๐Ÿ™‚

The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the theme this time.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of the fashionettes,
be inspired and maybe join in the fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 as well.

Enjoy!

Carefree Days!

“Build It Up”
Using at least three stamps!
is the challenge this fortnight at FSC
The watercolour background, butterflies and casual image
give me the feeling of carefree and innocent summer days!
So if you are going through some rough weather right about now…
I hope this helps you think of what is on its way soon…
Wendy Vecchi was demo-ing the most gorgeous backgrounds at CHA
~ and I  just had to give it a go…
Ok, so maybe I don’t quite have the new re-inkers (yet!)
and had to work out what the Australian version of what rubbing alcohol was…
but where there is a will there is a way!!!

My logic behind this background goes a little like this ~
I have no re-inkers…but what do we use re-inkers for?
For re-inking stamp pads with, of course!
So I swiped a little colour direct from the ink pad!
Next – rubbing alcohol!
I had no idea what this was, so friends on fb came up with
an antiseptic called “Isocol”
which I found in the health section of the supermarket (near the band aids).
I am totally in love with this technique!!!
My tip is to follow the video as when I tried short cuts it just didn’t work.
But the end results are just beautiful.
The main image is stamped…the kids masked
and then the background inked and flicked with water.
The image is torn, and then I added a little bleach in some sections to tone down the colour and bring the white out to the edge.
The main image is a new one that I got from Art Journey called Precious Moments
and the words are from a set called Nature Flowers
The butterflies are from a set called Just Butterflies from Chocolate Baroque.
A little flicking of gesso, some TH tape around the edge, a little freehand doodling for a border
 and there you have it.
