3D at FSC

“Spread Your Wings and Fly”
It is all about 3D this fortnight at FSC
and you can 3D any object you like,
but it must be an object
and it must have stamping on it, of course!
The stamping must be the focal point of your creation.
This fortnight we have the super talented and so inspiring
Alison from Words and Pictures.
If you haven’t found her blog yet,
or just want to go browsing again,
please pop on over and leave her some love…
it’s a beautiful blog to visit.
We live is a 3D world and spend so much of our creative time putting our ideas down onto card.
Well, not this fortnight. It’s all about shaped items.
I went to the local bargain store and found a picture frame on sale ~ ~ for half price, and thought that will do!
before
It was pretty tacky –
that’s probably why they had reduced the price.
It was definitely in need of fixing up!
after
I decided not to colour the frame
as I really wanted the picture in the middle to be the main focus.
Also, I thought that to add too much to the frame
it would have been too cluttered
and the image would have be lost.
Why is it so hard to keep it simple!
This gorgeous image (which I first saw used by Avril) has been a long time favourite of mine.
It always reminds me of Mia Farrow.
The image is totally feminine to me, seductive, quiet and tasteful with a touch of mystery.
To bring the butterflies from the image to the edge I simply used some distress stains on card
and spritzed some water, stamped the butterfly and cut it out.
There are 2 more at the bottom of the frame.
The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the theme this time.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of the fashionettes,
be inspired and maybe join in the fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 as well.

Enjoy!

Vintage Babe at the Beach

“In The Holiday Spirit”
is the theme this month at Fashionable Stamping Challenges
due to xmas being so close, this challenge will run for a whole month
without the pressure of xmas being in the way.
Remember, if you have a crafting moment or two…
and need to just unwind…
you can enter up to 3 times.
My piece this time around made me think of my holidays that
start in a couple of weeks (6 weeks off woooohoooo).
As it is Summer here, the natural choice was to
create a beach scene.
I only live one block from the sea so a lot of my
holidays are spent sun baking and walking at the beach
~ and coffee-ing with friends at the beach-side cafes.
Picking the scene was the easy bit…with summer and holidays nearly here…
and this gorgeous stamp that I bought recently.
Then I came across a brilliant tutorial here by Leandra at PaperArtsy!
The rest just fell into place as I went along.
I have all these Fresco Finish paints, but haven’t really used them all that much
~ so it was a great opportunity to just have a play.
And I absolutely love the vintage feel that the crackle background gives.
I still struggle with the embellishment side of things.
And admire those that use them so skillfully!
I went with adding more seagulls that extend the edges
and just a little frantage (something else that I don’t use all that much)
to add a pop of white to blend in the white seagulls.
I know what you are thinking…and I thought the same afterwards…
but the frantage does remind me of something else.
That’s just part of summer too I guess!
Thanks Kaye for passing on the shells to me rather than throwing them out.
They finished this off so well.
There you have it…a relaxed beach scene, Dot’s style!

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges ~

Baby Blue

I will be entering this in Stamp Something Challenge
I’m starting to have more of a go at using my crackle paint, and the picket fence white goes beautifully on this card. And I am really liking the flow of the card, rounding off the edge of the striped paper with crackle paint really makes a difference to the feel of the card.
Enjoy!

Princess Pretty

A wonderful friend of mine just had her 5th baby….and 1st girl (congratulations Phil and Lisa) ~ so I wanted to make something special for her.  I really wanted this card to be crisp.  Not grungy.  But no matter how I looked at it, I just had to add something…soooo…on went the Picket Fence crackle paint!  Then I wiped Worn Lipstick DI over it for effect.  If I had a chance to make this card again, I would put MORE crackle paint on around the outside. Next time…and maybe leave it white. If you look closely I have put glitter around the edge of the circle and on the wings/ribbon of the angel.
Enjoy!
