For Julia…with thanks!

A couple of weeks ago I went to a political afternoon at a friend’s house…
to meet the new local representative for Labor
as a lead up to an election that will take place later this year.
I don’t want to bore you with politics, however a little background is necessary.
In a nutshell……..3 days prior to this function, our PM (Julia),
representing the Labor Party in Australia,
called an internal caucus meeting to decide on the party’s leader, and to end internal bickering.
The deal was that whoever lost was to leave politics.
So, as a result, Julia is no longer leading our country…and is leaving altogether.
On arriving at the function I was asked if I would design and make a card that would show our gratitude for all that she accomplished during her time as PM.
As a way of saying “thankyou”
So I said yes! Ok! It would be my honour!
Then I panicked!
Got excited…
Got scared…

I skyped Shirley in Ireland…swore heaps and said what do I do???
Her advice was to make a list of words to describe her and go from there.
And that is exactly what I did.
The common thread was her passion
~ so hearts represent the passion.
Pioneering leadership for women and copping so much flack on a sexist basis
~ that is the woman, representing suffragettes.
Her femininity
~ that is the pink and burgundy.
Her love for Australia
~ is the flowering gums
Her strength of character and nerves of steal
~ are the diamonds.
And I have left an opening to the right
~ which represents a passageway to whatever future she chooses to have.

The main stamps are from Australian companies
~ Darkroom Door for the words
~  flowering gums from Kaszazz
~ and the lady is from Crafty Individuals
(because Julia was born in Wales I think something from the UK is quite fitting)

All the flowering gums are cut out and raised to add movement and life to the leaves.
The lady has been coloured with DI’s which were tinted with copper Perfect Pearls Mist, instead of water, and painted on.
Bleach was added around the flourishes for depth.
The diamonds are from the harlequin mask and I have used grunge paste and then coloured it.
And a little glitz and glamour to finish it off.

I hope I haven’t bored you too much,

but because this card was a specific brief I thought I would explain my thinking during the process.
I really did enjoy making this card
and I am very satisfied within myself for how it has turned out.
Enjoy!

Black and White

Black and White
Just popping in to share a card that I made for colleague.
The brief was to create a card in black and white, with a little french influence if I can
and that the person loves butterflies.
Aaargh!!! I don’t have any french stamps!!!
(but will get that sorted out in the future lol)
I’m not sure if it is very french, but she was more than happy
with the outcome…phewwww.
I have bounced off an idea that I had earlier this year, which you can find here,
and I think it looks heaps better! It uses my all time favourite lady stamp.
I think she is a little vintage and sooo very classy!
I have used her for both contemporary and vintage cards,
and not many stamps can do that.
I really like how this turned out,
looks like some of my friends might be getting similar ones, ssshhhh
!
Enjoy!

Tag It….

Hi, it’s time for a new challenge at
Fashionable Stamping Challenges and this fortnight it is …
Tags!
All you need is a tag somewhere on your creation.
I haven’t made a tag since last time we had a tag challenge
~ challenge #4 in Sept 2011….and that was my first one!
OMG, it’s been awhile!!!!! I might have to do something about that! lol
This tag was heaps of fun to make…
but it sort of spilled out over the edge so I just added it to a card.  (I just couldn’t resist!)
It is male orientated and steampunk inspired.
My favourite part is the off-the-edge cogs.
It was sprayed with dylusional brown and black,
spritzed with copper mist,
run through a cog embossing folder
and distressed with a little black to make the crevices stand out more.
Some words of wisdom, a bit of ideology
a splatter of paint and a flying man is all that is needed!
I hope you have enjoyed this piece of fun.
Flonz has a generous $20 voucher for the winner

along with the stampettes top pics, Saturday spotlights

Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend!

Red, Black and Brown
is the new theme this fortnight at FSC
Have you ever just really liked an stamp and then when you
get it you never quite know what to do with it?
That is how it was with my diamond stamp from
Stampers Anonymous!
Although I had seen Paula do some amazing pieces with it,
and I just had to have it!!!!
…I still had no idea what to do with it.

I eventually decided to mask my lady stamp (an old fav of mine)
and then use the diamond stamp behind her.
The overall idea was to keep things neutral
with a pop of red…and just a hint of brown.
So the odd flower (not all),
are tinged with red aqua crayons
and a slash of brown on the lady’s hat.

The pink bit through the middle is just an area masked off with torn paper
that has been inked with spun sugar DI and edged with barn door.

The outer bits are coloured with London Fog Memento and black DI.
With a little grey crackle stamping.

The special effect this time around
is the use of a charcoal pencil
on the stenciled diamonds, which are done in texture paste.
The have been smudged with the pencil
so that they are in different shades of grey
(oh, I guess it is my version of 50 Shades of Grey lol)

Planes, Trains and Automobiles

This is just one of those cards that started out as an experiment, then turned grunge!
And that’s ok.
This is the experimental part.
The funny thing is that I really liked this just the way it is…
it is inked, stamped on, torn pages from an old book added – and inked some more.
And I added texture with holey tissue paper.
Just a whole lot of fun really!!!
What I haven’t shown is when I then splatted some bleach on, added more torn bits and then inked over it in blue hues.
My discovery for this fortnight is that you can paint the bleach on and have a more controlled area to work with instead of just splatters.
Then I had a break and came back in a grunge frame of mind!!!
I had no idea what to do with my background.
So I grunged it with black,
kept the main image simple
and added a grungy flower!
This flower is my favourite bit…I followed a tutorial in Craft Stamper
using kraft glassine (July 2012 issue)
and this was the first card that I’ve made that it seemed to go on beautifully.
