“Circles”

“Circles”
is the new theme this fortnight at Fashionable Stamping Challenges.
We especially need to see that the stamping
is the focal point on the project
and that this must follow the format of the theme.
The globe, clocks, spotlighting and stencils
are just a few things that come to mind…
I’ve been quite taken with the Dina Wakely faces lately
so I decided to use one for this challenge…and add circles into the background for a bit of fun.
Loads of depth has been built up with the wrinkle-free technique and  using a circle stencil in the background.
Then stamping with lids of different sizes seemed to be a nice way to bring the circles forward.
There is even a little journalling of circles to accentuate the lines around the words.
These lines are made using an old credit card…very handy!
The girls at FSC have come up with some inspiring and very different versions on the theme this time.
Please pop on over and check out the awesomeness of the fashionettes,
be inspired and maybe join in the fun.
Flonzcraft are our sponsors this fortnight and have a generous $20 gift voucher up for grabs,
there are spotlights and a top 3 as well.

Enjoy!

“Follow Your Heart”

“Stamping With No Ink”
We have a new challenge this fortnight at FSC
which is stamping without using any ink…
but you can use inks for the background if you like.
Some ideas are using any type of paint, sprays, gesso,  bleach and so on
for your stamping.
It’s a perfect opportunity to play with embossing folders and papers!
Or if you have dabbled a little with mixed media this is a perfect opportunity for you to have a play and experiment with other mediums…and have heaps of fun!

I had no plans for this piece…but I thought I would like to use a stencil that I hadn’t used yet.
After inking the background I coloured the stencil in
using Brilliance black and a stipple brush.
Some new stamps arrived a couple of days ago so I used the butterfly…
then added another one…
and then added another one – because it’s always better with odd numbers
– using black gesso painted onto the stamp with a brush.

Still no plan…

Using black gesso as my “ink”
I did some crazy stamping that I saw Finnabair do here.
And because I had no plan…I used a stamp that said “just because…”

This is when I walked away
came back a while later and decided to turn it into a journal style! And one-layer.
(YES A PLAN!!!)
Soooo…some splats with distress stains, a little stenciling, some dripping of some watered down gesso, some bleach around the body of the image and on the butterflies, some splattering of white acrylic paint and rings of white Distress Paint  using texta tops.

I added some ivy along the bottom for balance and stenciled a heart around one of the butterflies.
I like how it gives a focal point for the girl to be moving towards.
(and yes, I did think of that before doing it lol)

I decided to call this one “Follow Your Heart”
as that is how it was created.
Not everything we do has a reason…and is just because…

Friends…

“Friends”
I made this card on a lazy Saturday afternoon and on a whim
I emailed it to The Craft Stamper.
It is inspired by Kate Crane (The Kathryn Wheel)
and was created around the time that we were designing cards
for our journaling challenge at Fashionable Stamping Challenges.
Low and behold….they made contact and wanted to publish it!!!
Happy Dance number 1.
It was heaps of fun to make!
The main image and sentiment are from Art Journey…
and I just can’t get enough of this stamp ~ I love it!
I wont get to see it for another 2 months
because that is when it is released here in Australia.
But the girls at FSC have been keeping an eye out for me
and Avril took some pics of it for me and sent them to me.
Thankyou so much Avril x

For now this is as close as I get to it.
So funny really.
It was a genuine shock when I realised that it was the Editor’s Choice,
and a whole page!!!
Happy dance number 2.
Happy dance number 3 will probably be in a couple of months time!
Enjoy!

A Journey into Journalling

Journal
Is the key word for our challenge at
Fashionable Stamping Challenges this fornight.
Wow…the talented Kate Crane, from the Kathryn Wheel, is our guest designer with some
wonderful inspiration to get your creative juices flowing…
Welcome Kate!
Journaling is a great way to throw a heap of exciting and fun inking techniques together and create layers so that everything pops out at you.
My piece isn’t from an actual journal (because I don’t have one…yet)
but that didn’t stop me from have heaps of fun and inky messiness!
It is from my heart and says a little about my story,
and that is what journalling is all about…

Here is my attempt to explain the process…
Firstly, I had to choose a background colour!
I had passion in my mind, so I think reds, oranges and yellow are good for this.
Then the fun starts…
I sprayed dylusional inks, followed up with some wrinkle free inking for the background.
Out came the stencils, a little ghosting, some spraying, a little packing plastic with paints, and more ink.
Somewhere in there I made a heart stencil and masked it before the colours got too dark
so that more depth could be created.
I wanted some stenciling behind the mask and some in front.
The stamped words were next, going from light colours to red.
I think with journalling you need to create a border, so out with my leaf stamp
and a little archival black ink.
The words are a favourite saying of mine at the moment and are hand written,
cut out, and edged with a fine liner before adding more ink.
And finally I wanted to add a chain to dangle the heart from…
so I punched out some little hearts in red and added glossy accents.
Gee, that was all a little wordy, but that is journalling isn’t it?
Leo at Flonzcraft is offering a very generous $20 voucher
to spend in his store for the winner,
and runners up and spotlights are up for grabs to!
The Fashionettes have some gorgeous inspiration for you so please pop on over to
FSC and check them all out and leave a little love…
These girls are amazing each and every time they create something!
Please be inspired and join in the fun…
